The Mechanical Designer works within a multi-disciplinary engineering team under direction of the Engineering Manager and Mechanical Team Lead to create mobile robotic platforms which transport NDT sensor and video inspection payloads. Responsibilities include mechanical design of new and customized equipment, maintaining and improving existing designs, conceptual designs and drawings for proposals, meeting design criteria with considerations to costing and budget, testing, and troubleshooting. Work also includes composition and maintenance of technical documentation, manuals, reports, production instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Work within a multidisciplinary team in the development and maintenance of standard product lines.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team in the design of new products and customized systems, including proposals, design studies, mechanical design, documentation, assembly, testing and final system verification.
  • Apply mechanical design methods for subsea equipment and corrosion control.
  • General mechanical documentation using Solidworks:
    • 3D part modeling
    • 2D detailed machine drawings for manufacture
    • Assembly drawings for production / Bills of Material
  • Compile technical documentation, manuals, reports, production instructions, SRED as required.
  • Incorporate industrial design concepts to optimize design quality, design for manufacturing principles, production costs, and operational functionality.
  • Provide judgement and analysis as a specialist in the design, development, and implementation of new application solutions.
  • Follow up with the production and integration team in response to suggestions for manufacturing and assembly process improvements.
  • Assist Customer Service department and customers with technical support as needed.
  • Continued learning of Eddyfi NDT equipment and methods.
  • Support continuous improvement of departmental procedures and practices.

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor of Applied Science or Master of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited engineering program.
  • Professionalism; ability to multi-task and work within a multidisciplinary team; Good communication
  • Strong organizational, problem solving, leadership, written and oral communication skills.
  • Aptitude for mechanisms and mechanical devices.
  • Practical knowledge or electives in control / sensors / actuators, robotics or automation is an asset.
  • Able to learn and work within a comprehensive framework of project management, enterprise resource and data management software.
  • General knowledge of NDT methods and equipment is an asset.
  • Experience using SolidWorks or similar software. Machine drawing dimensioning skills.
  • Ability to travel internationally is an asset.
